Dress Exchange Essentials

  • The goal of the Dress Exchange is for everyone to leave with a dress they love.

  • The idea is simple, exchange a clean, special-occasion dress for another clean, high-quality dress. Dresses eligible for exchange, were likely worn to a bar/bat mitzvah, cotillion, wedding, promotion, graduation or other special occasion.

  • Remember you will not return home with your original dress. Only bring to the exchange dresses that you are willing to part with.

  • All dresses that remain following the exchange become the property of Drestiny.

FAQS

No, there is no entry fee.  Participants are free to browse the racks and pay only for the dresses purchased.

How does a Drestiny-sponsored dress exchange work?

  • Upon arrival at the dress exchange, you will be required to check- in/register

  • Credit coupons will be issued for each dress contributed by the exchange

  • Participants may then  proceed directly to the dress racks

  • You are free to shop for a new dress(es) from the available merchandise.  Fitting rooms will be available.

  • After selecting a dress proceed to the check- out desk where all coupons will be redeemed to pay for the dress(es)

  • No refunds will be issued for unused credits

  • Keep in mind that Drestiny enforces a strict “no hold”  dress policy

Why can’t Drestiny hold a dress for me?

The success of the exchange is based on dresses changing hands.  If you like a dress, it is wise to check out the dress immediately.    The no hold policy prevents any one participant from hoarding dresses.

Have all the dresses at the dress exchange been previously worn?

While many of the dresses that populate the racks at the exchange have been lightly worn, many are brand new with tags still in place.  Much to a parent’s dismay, girls often out grow a dress before she has an opportunity to wear it.  Drestiny staff purchase new dresses to ensure their is adequate selection and style of merchandise in each size category.

What dresses are eligible for exchange at a Drestiny dress exchange event?

All dresses will be examined by a Drestiny staff member before being accepted for the exchange.   Dresses must be of high quality, clean, age appropriate and in current style.  Dresses eligible for exchange, were likely worn to a bar/bat mitzvah, cotillion, wedding, promotion, graduation or other special occasion.  A complete explanation of the dress acceptance criteria can be found under the Guidelines tab.

What dress makers or dress labels does Drestiny accept?

While each dress stands on its own merit, Drestiny staff will examine each dress and dress label to ensure that we are accepting garments of only the highest quality.  By examining the dress labels we are ensuring an equitable exchange for all participants.  A sampling of the labels we accept include but are not limited to:  Jessica McClintock, Les Tout Petits, K.C. Parker, Necessary Objects, C.W. Designs, Zoe LTD, Un Deux Trios, Pirouette, Zum Zum.

Can dresses be screened and dropped off prior to the day of an event?

Yes, dresses can be dropped off in advance of any scheduled event.  Contact editor@drestiny.com for more information on early drop off options.

What happens if I can’t find a dress I like?

If you are unable to find a suitable dress there are several options.  First, think of selecting a dress for a favorite cousin, sister or friend.  Come back later, as the stock of merchandise at a Drestiny event is constantly changing.  You may have better luck finding a dress later in the afternoon.   Keep in mind that unused dress credits will not be redeemed for cash.

Why does the dress exchange format change?

Since the merchandise and participants change with each event, the dress exchange experience is never the same event twice.  We continually tinker with the format to expand the concept of dress exchange to a wider audience.
